HTML 5
or web 3.0
"Hype or not?" ask the journalists, "new market?" ask the bosses.
The fact: most of HTML5 is not as new as many would think. Parts of it have been around for years under different names, only known to programmers. Only now, the majority of web users are starting to use top-of-the-art browsers such as Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Opera which support those technologies. Some parts, though, are new. What falls under HTML5?
- Video without plugins controllable by Javascript
- Store data offline (more than cookies)
- Form fields with format sensibility (range and date inputs)
- Sockets
- Canvas, draw any graphics into the browser
- Load any fonts
One piece after the other, the browser is becoming more and more powerful to offer an environment for complex applications and games. People will stop bying software on CD and they will not need to download it either, they just pay for the time they use it online. Same for games, someday even realtime 3D graphics will be possible and no need for gigabytes of harddisk space. Dudai.net is doing research right at that point, learning the possibilities and preparing for the future. This website is already HTML5! Be with us!
